The Terminal
An Exercise in Packing
So as some of you may know, the Global Gateways team is heading to France, the land of wine and cheese (two of our favorite things) next month. We're going to be there for about 9 days, with a pitstop in Paris before making our way down to Lyon for our Uniworld River Cruise. We're currently about 43 days out, which means it's time for me to start thinking about what I'm going to pack.
Now, traditionally I am a heavy packer. Besides the fact that there's no packing light with two kids, I'll also concede that I'm always afraid I'm going to need something, which leads to me packing my entire closet. However, the kids are staying with Grandma and Grandpa, and I've been doing some soul-searching. So, I have decided to try to pack for this 9 day trip using only a carry on.
I know. I'm freaking out a little myself.
In an effort to get good at packing, so I can actually make this thing happen, I have turned to my favorite place: Pinterest. And I have to say it's been super helpful. Tons of suggestions but I've discovered a few key takeaways:
- Bring versatile pieces that can be paired in multiple ways, like my plain but nicer tees/sweaters
- Skinnies are in everywhere, so I won't have a pants issue which is awesome
- Wash clothes while traveling to save some space. Side note: this one is really smart, honestly. I wear the same 4 shirts at home because they make me look the best. Now I'll have an excuse! (Plus laundry is free on Uniworld ships -they even provide the detergent)
- Ditch the uncomfortable shoes (which is my life motto) and bring some tennies and shoes that dress up well
I feel like I can make this work. I don't know if I'll ever be at this level, but baby steps, right?
